DYSON: ... the dominant American culture has fed the—and fueled the vicious divisiveness that we continue to confront. So, now you're trying to scapegoat.
BUCHANAN: Stop blaming everybody else for your—you continue to blame...
This article from Crooks and Liars has the full title of, "Pat Buchanan's idea of a race discussion is to read off crime stats" and coming from this website, the title is no surprise. I think it's embarrassing however that we claim to want to discuss race but are all too ready to brandish any different opinion as dangerous.
Watch the video. In my opinion, they're both right in some areas but neither of them acknowledge the points the other is making with much more than a tepid response. They spend their time talking over one another. Neither ends up satisfied that their opponent won't take responsibility for the sins of others.
This is race discussion? We want everyone to bare the sins of their fathers? We want everyone to be a symbol of their community; to take responsibility for the failures of strangers?
Buchanan didn't accept enough responsibility for America's past in Dyson's point of view and Dyson didn't take enough responsibility for the debilitating elements in black communities from Pat's perspective.
That's all we got for race discussion I suppose. It's a damn shame.
